TWO LAST KNOWN EBOLA CASES IN LIBERIA DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL.
Liberia’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday said that the last two known Ebola patients have been discharged from hospital after recovering from the disease.
After the country was declared ebola free in January, a woman was reported to have died of the disease late March while she was being transported to a hospital in Monrovia.
Press spokesman for the ministry Sorbor George said the two were discharged from the Ebola Treatment Unit in Monrovia on Friday.
“The two have been responding to the treatment and recovered from the virus last week. But thorough checkups had to be done, and fortunately all proved them free of the virus. This means that Liberia is again going through the countdown to be declared free of Ebola,” he told AFP.
The disease which has claimed about 11,300 lives was more prevalent in Liberia after it emerged in the west African region in 2013.
The World Health Organization has said Ebola no longer constitutes an international emergency, but the announcement of new cases in West Africa has demonstrated the difficulty of managing its aftermath.
